BEECHWOOD

oksia

Beech or Fagus is a genus of ten types of deciduous trees found in Europe, Asia and central America. In Greece it forms large, dense forests in the mountains of Central Greece, Thessaly and North Greece.

Beech trees are big and may reach up to 35 metres in height. Their trunk is straight, smooth and even with thin, grey bark and foliage that allows light to pass through. Young beeches are conical and develop a wide canopy as they age. They grow in altitudes between 500m and 1800m.

Uses:

Beech wood is used widely: as firewood, it produces excellent coal, while timber from long trunk beeches is suitable for furniture construction, lathing etc, after being dried enough to reduce the disadvantage of elasticity.
